California Fines Ford $3 Million

California’s Air Resources Board has fined Ford almost $3 million because the pollution control system on 2011-2012 Fiestas fails to work properly. A spokesman for the agency said this issue only affects 16,500 vehicles sold in their state. The Board claims Fiesta’s onboard diagnostic computer does not illuminate the check engine light when there is an engine emissions problem.
The agency came to the conclusion that Ford did not tamper with the emissions system. But on several occasions Ford failed to disclose all legally required vehicle calibration information. This information would make it easier for a third-party to make sure the system was operating properly.
